Case Study: HRM Homecare Support Worker, William Jardine talks about why he chose a career in social care.

William Jardine, Support Worker for HRM Homecare Services

“It started when I began caring for my brother 15 years ago. I had never thought of a career in care but after caring for him, then my mother and father I suddenly didn’t feel the same satisfaction in my own work. I wanted to give back and help people.”

“I owned my own business but started to feel there was something missing, I knew I wanted to work within my community and care for people. That’s when I found HRM Homecare and started considering a new career in care.”

“I love building relationships with people, for some of my service users I may be the only person they see that day or our team may be the only people they see that week. So, I think it’s so important to build relationships with people, get to know them and treat them how I would like my family to be treated.”

“I like to have a laugh and make them smile when I can. Getting to know everyone individually is great because it means that you can work with them in a way that suits them making sure you carry out your duties with dignity and respect.”

“Working at HRM has been so rewarding, I am now also working towards my SVQ in Social Services and Health Care and look forward to many more years there to come.”
